FS Studio was tasked with developing a conversation engine that would facilitate ad-hoc scripted and unscripted chat with children for entertainment purposes. At the outset, the requirements were completely undefined including the methods for dialogue management, content representation, and algorithmic intelligence.

PROCESS
Within a six month time frame with one principal engineer, FS Studio surveyed research in dialogue management, conversational agents, robotics, and information retrieval and
developed a working prototype that was fully voice-enabled, and operating in an client-server-cloud configuration.
RESULT
Two critical contributions were made by FS Studio. The first was identifying a means to support both scripted (guided) interactions alongside ad-hoc unscripted interactions. The second was developing a semantic search algorithm based on data-mining Wikipedia that allowed conversational associations to be created regardless of syntactic variation, tense,
and sense.
