Enterprise is Adopting Immersive Technology and It Will Forever Change the Future of Work Beyond 2023

By Bobby Carlton

Technologies such as synthetic data, AI, robotic simulation, and 3D AI will all be part of enterprise solutions moving forward. Are you prepared?

Enterprise is rapidly adopting digital twinning as a means to improve their operations and achieve greater efficiencies. Having a digital twin as a virtual representation of a physical asset, process, or system allows organizations to simulate and analyze the performance of these entities in a digital environment.

DIGITAL TWINS

With the help of digital twinning, companies can monitor, predict, and optimize the behavior of their assets and systems, leading to improved decision-making and increased productivity.

Additionally, digital twinning enables organizations to identify potential problems early on and develop solutions before they result in costly downtime which can lead to reduced risks and increased resilience. As a result, companies across various industries are looking to implement digital twinning as a way to drive innovation, enhance competitiveness and improve overall performance.

ROBOTIC SIMULATION

Robotic simulation can improve robotics in several ways:

  • Development and testing: Simulations provide a safe and controlled environment for developing, testing and optimizing robotic algorithms and systems before deployment in real-world scenarios.
  • Training and validation: Simulation can be used to train robotic systems and validate their performance before deployment, ensuring they operate as expected in real-world situations.
  • Cost savings: By allowing for virtual testing and validation, simulation can reduce the cost and time associated with building and testing physical prototypes.
  • Improved safety: Robotic simulation allows for testing and evaluating robotic systems in hazardous or difficult-to-access environments, improving safety for both humans and the robotic systems themselves.
  • System integration: Simulations can be used to test the interaction and integration of multiple robotic systems, which can be difficult to test in physical environments.

Overall, robotic simulation provides a powerful tool for improving the design, development, testing and deployment of robotic systems.

SYNTHETIC DATA

Enterprise technology is heading towards a future characterized by increased automation and intelligence, greater flexibility and accessibility through cloud computing, faster and more efficient data processing with edge computing and 5G, and heightened security concerns in the face of growing cyber threats. It will be important for companies to embrace the use of synthetic data to stay competitive.

3D AI

Real-time simulation refers to the use of computer software to create a virtual environment that mimics the behavior of a real-world system, with the simulation running in real-time. This means that the simulation is able to respond to changes in its environment in real-time, just like the real-world system would. Real-time simulation is often used in a variety of fields, including engineering, medicine and gaming.

3D AI, on the other hand, refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to create intelligent agents that operate in three-dimensional (3D) environments. These agents can interact with objects and other agents in the environment, and can be used for a variety of applications, such as autonomous robots, virtual assistants and video games.

In some cases, real-time simulation and 3D AI can be combined to create even more sophisticated virtual environments. For example, a real-time simulation of a factory could be used to test the performance of autonomous robots that are controlled by 3D AI agents.

FUTURE OF WORK

The future of work is rapidly evolving and is likely to be shaped by a number of technological and demographic trends. Remote work, automation and artificial intelligence, the gig economy and the increasing importance of skills such as problem solving, creativity and emotional intelligence are all expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of work. Companies will need to embrace these changes and provide their employees with the tools and support they need to thrive in this new environment, while also ensuring that they are protected from the potential downsides, such as job loss due to automation. Additionally, there will be a growing need for continuous learning and skill development to remain relevant in an ever-changing job market.

The future of work promises to be dynamic, challenging and filled with new opportunities for individuals and organizations alike.

Bobby Carlton

Bobby Carlton leads business development at FS Studio, where he works with robotics, autonomy, and manufacturing teams to figure out what they actually need from simulation before a single asset gets built. His view is that the next chapter of immersive technology is not a headset. It is the physical world learning to think. That work sits at the point where robots, digital twins, and synthetic data stop being separate disciplines and become one: teaching machines to understand and act in real environments. He spends his time on the practical end of it, translating between the engineers building high-fidelity simulation and the operators who have to justify it on a plant floor, in a warehouse, or across a fleet. On the FS Studio blog he writes DigiTalk, a running look at how Physical AI is being built right now. The posts cover embodied reasoning, teleoperation data, humanoid reliability, sim-to-real transfer, and the tooling underneath it, including NVIDIA Omniverse, MuJoCo, and OpenUSD. No hype, no roadmap fan fiction, just what changed and what it means for teams shipping real systems. Bobby is based in Albany, New York, and studied at the State University of New York at Albany.
